vines growing in flash

i have been asked to add a flash image to a site i just finished what the client wants is a picture and then over the top have flowers opening or vines growing so I was thinking it might be a case of slowly revealing the vine image on top of the other picture. Not sure really dont do a great deal of flash but now i am working for myself I would like to experiment more any ideas how this would be done??

you could trace bitmap on the image depending on the complexity of it, then do a frame by frame erase of portions of it.

Or masking which would be easier, create any shape you want, and tween it the way u want to reveal the vines. Then position it in a layer above the vines picture and right click on the layer>mask.

Hope that helps.

you don't need swish for that, you'll have to animate it using the ways suggested, there is no 'vine grow' function in flash, you'll have to use your judgment and a bit of trial and error

In other words, "masking" - only masking doesn't remove anything from the image - you just cover up certain pieces of it and go step by step.

its not very organic is it. surely you know that yourself.

either spend more time on it or tell your client that its out of budget.

Do it frame by frame erasing small parts each time, like if its 24fps, then erase about a tenth of the vine every 24 frames gradually, and a leaf in 12 frames.

You would have to go to modify bitmap>trace bitmap i think so that it becomes a shape in flash and u can go on erasing it...

what i did was start with the full image and then delete a bit at a time in photoshop and saved all of the images to a folder then i imported them into flash and build up a 198 frame animation of the different stages so i cant delete anything in flash because it wont allow me and if i go to trace bitmap it turns it into a illustrated looking image. The thing is there is no budget for this, its an extra that i dont really have time to do and wished i didnt have to. my own fault i know

did you export 198 images from photoshop?

you want to go back into flash, press f1 and type 'masking'

sigh, don't delete. look into masks.

multiple masks working away at slightly different times would sort you out no trouble, and it should only take an hour to do.
