odd one:

a client of ours has a site on a cobalt raq server, with only the basic server backend- does naff all really - we need to backup the site, but theres too many files for ftp, and gzip doesnt seem to be installed - any ideas?

how about transferring the lot to another server via rsync? then run gzip from there?
