Graphic Tablet anyone?
Does anyone here use these? I just borrowed a cheap one from a mate, and it seems to have potential for producing good freehand drawings on the computer. It's a couple of years old I think and presume things have improved a bit. Any recommendations about what's good value for money? Sean |

yes, if you're serious about graphic - I'd say it's a must! don't know about value for money - Wacom tablets seem to dominate the market - but I've seen some very cheap (compared to the price of a Wacom) 'clones' out there... Think the main difference is in the pressure sensitivity. old thread www.wacom.com If I'm not mistaking - it's a German company - you might be able to get one cheaper where you are! (?) ...

i love tablets, i havent had one for a while and i miss it so much. i do a lot of freehand drawing and its so much easier, plus the pressure is better than a stupid mouse. i have only used wacom, so i dont know which is the best, but i have heard from friends in the business that wacom is one of the best. Should I fall out of love, my fire in the light

Cheers, that's a good start. (I should have guessed that a post about RSI would end up as a tablet post!). I've seen a lot of Wacoms around so I'll look into it. This one I have ain't bad but it did cost just €15, the pressure sensitive 'nib' is a bit dodgy so I imagine this is one area where the better one's offer improvement. Sean |

Yes, very cheap. It was from the supermarket 'Aldi' which has very cheap offers at times and this was probably the last one cos it's got a Special Offer price tag. It also has a 'DM' price tag which is what suggests to me that it's old (I've almost forgotten what DM's look like!). And it's A6. I would be looking for A5. But a bargain, nonetheless! Sean |

The guys here all use A4 - A3 pads for their re-touching, heaven to use and the speed once your use to them just for opening menu bars and stuff is amazing. Not that I get to use them much. They use Wacoms on the macs and I'm not sure what the ones on the Barco Systems are |

Thanks for the further replies. I've done a bit of scouting around in shops and online and have found huge differences in price between Wacom and 'other makes'. For A4 and bigger, Wacom just goes through the roof whereas the others seem very reasonable. There is a German Electronics chain that have some good offers on 'other' stuff. I tried direct linking but it won't have it, so if you got time and patience go to Conrad Then click the German flag and choose 'privatkunden' (private customers) and do a search for 'grafik tablette'. The 3 results are obviously in German but seem to be good value when looking at the specs. By the way, the English version only brings up 1 product. I haven't bought one yet, cos I saw some interesting special offers on digi cameras. Blew my spare cash on a nice little Panasonic with Leica lense. The rest I spent on beer. The only tablet I need at the moment is Aspirin. Sean |
