QTVR hardware

I am looking at the possibility of buying a panoramic tripod head for producing QTVRs.

I know the advantage of them is that they are marked off in degrees, so you can accurately rotate the camera, and that the line up the nodal point to avoid parallex effects.

But - I've done some before using a standard tripod and on the whole the results haven't been too bad. Are they worth the extra investment, since they are quite expensive??

Any experiences most welcome.

Anyone know of any suppliers? I have looked at Red Door in Leeds, but there don't seem to be many specialist places about.

you could try http://www.calumetphoto.com they seem to have most things.

I'm fairly sure we hired one (at a place i used to work) not sure where from tho. And i know that we also botched together our own with OK results, not perfect but given the quality of most QTVRs perfectly adequate.
