System Profiler (applications > utilities > system profiler) should tell you everything you need to know...

-alt-

Apple menu (top left Apple icon) > About This Mac (first option)

OS (version)
Physical Memory/RAM amount
Processor type/speed

Then click the 'More Info…' button, which launches 'System Profiler' for you.

Who gave you the spec? The iMac 17" didn't come out until January 2002 so it can't be 4 years old plus even the lowliest G4 iMacs had a 700mhz G4 processor...

Actually FWIW I don't think the iMac has ever came with a 433mhz chip of any variant...

Running OS X won't be a problem for sure.
MY olde worlde G4/400 ('Yikes') seems to be taking to the new 10.3.4 upgrade like a natural.
It won't be blistering, but presumably you already know that.

Re: the price.
I know (next to) nuthin', though if it's an Apple flat screen, the price does start to sound sweeter.
Not a great help, probably.

The G4 450 came with 128Mb RAM as standard which won't run OS X so make sure it has more. Price sounds a bit steep to be honest though it all depends on the display. If it's a totally standard machine I'd pay no more than £350 for the tower...
