This may be a stupid question but what is the purpose of dual monitors in web design??

one monitor has the code, the other the browser so you can view what you are doing without having to click between windows etc?

They aren't necessary. It's just so you can have more space for your windows, or for you to do something like Scott said.

It is supposed to make you more productive because you don't have to switch between screens.

I personally have got 2 24" screens. I actually like it alot. I would purchase a third tomorrow if I could have one massive screen for games but unfortunately you cant connect 3x24" in games

so im stuck at 3840x1200 and having to play games on a single screen.
