Will it be a MBP?

I've decided to make a damn change and buy a notebook - a desktop replacement since my PC hasn't been upgraded for like...uhhm, 3 years or so.

I was happy with my choice, a 15'' Macbook Pro, till I found out that the new Dell notebook series has just been launched. I'm talking about Dell Studio 17. Right now, I really don't know which one to go for. The MBP has OS X and the Dell has 17'' at a lower price.

Are 15'' enough for graphic design?
What would you go for? A 15'' Macbook Pro or the Dell 17?

you need figure whether you want to use OsX... and your question will be settled.

i wouldn't personally buy a mac to exclusively use Windows

monitors size and graphic design - it is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' question.

For daily use 17" is too small in my book. You want 20"+

I expect the mac will have a better quality display. I wouldn't use any laptop as my primary platform for designing. If you are only using it as a replacement for a desktop and don't need the portability, in my opinion you are wasting your money.

Buy a new desktop and splash out some money on a good quality monitor.

Also worth noting that the Macbook Pro has a better graphics card.

To be honest unless you are going to need the mobility of a laptop, and are looking for a desktop replacement that doesn't take up much room, why not look at an iMac. So many people I know have laptops and they never leave the house, pointless spending the extra if that's the case.

I'm going to buy a Mac Book, but buy a decent monitor to use it with at home.

I agree 100% with you guys...

The thing is, I'm going to college and mobility is needed, it's not like I'm going to depend on the battery but I am going to need a platform to work on. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not going to work on the road but I will switch places quite often. That's why I'm thiking of a notebook.

Another thing is: prices here for Apple products are big, I mean HUGE, actually we don't even have an Apple store, it's some kind of reseller crap...so while you would pay $1,999.00 for a 15'' Macbook Pro in USA, I would pay about $3100 here.

I found a killer offer from a guy in UK for a brand new 15'' Macbook Pro, and it's like buying an imac here - considering the price.

I'm also thinking of buying the Macbook Pro and a 20'' display for home.

I got mine from the US ~ 3100 USD. 17" LED screen. Point is screen is no good for serious design, if you can hook it up to an external screen it's a very good machine.

New 20" iMacs have poor screens, too.

Macuser.ro might have more answers for you, though.
