Not every model - the Pro doesn't have one. As a Pro owner, I've been quite interested in this subject myself for the purposes of having video chats on Skype etc...

Basically official support for 3rd party webcams is a bit sketchy in Mac OS for the very reason that 99% of people don't need to buy one because of the built in iSight.

However there has been a big third party effort by open source developers to provide drivers for as many webcams as possible. You can find all the info at:

macam : USB webcam support for Mac OS X

They have a big list there of cameras that are supported. I tried macam on a 7 year old Logitech camera (of which I have no idea of the model number - it's got nothing written on it) and it worked absolutely fine.

Another vote for getting something by Logitech, I've had a few of their webcams over the years and noticed they all claimed to work on a Mac. Their mice are miles better than Apple's shitey mouse too.

Well ya, its a desktop,

but thats also why Apple sells a dedicated iSight standalone

/edit: Err looks like they don't offer it anymore, but I assume you could find one at most computer store, if not on ebay

Nope, the macbooks were the first to feature a built in standard isight on apples laptop line,

the ibook never had one,

and the standalone iSight camera has attachments to fit on laptops

Yeah, I think if anything is going to have a driver, it's probably one of theirs.

I had a sony webcam for my HP before I abandoned that and got a mac. Needless to say, sony dislike apple very much and I never got it working, even with scouring the internet for drivers

hi my laptop is powerbook G4. Mac OSX v10.4 (Tiger). the model I bought was Mikomi. Buy Mikomi 1.3Mp USB Webcam with Mic. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for .

it says it works with Mac but I couldnt get the CD in my laptop as Apple laptops suck the CD in and due to it being a small CD, it wouldnt suck in so I had to get masking tape, stick it to the edge and slowly pull the CD out that was slightly sticking out. I can't even install the driver. I then tried on my G5 and the CD just wouldnt run. Sooo...erm...I dunno.

Mine doesn't. My laptop doesnt have a built in web cam. Usually, its the camera installed. Not a webcam right. Web cam is different. Just a note. haha

Seems a bit shoddy but likely more reliable than these.

Giggles - if you have a regular video camera, you can usually plug it in and use it as a webcam. Might be a bit overkill, but it's an option.

Unfortunately, I don't have a video camera. How does it work for it to be used live on MSN etc?

If you're that worried about it, you should buy directly through the manufacturer (in this case, macally) as opposed to a reseller
