Why can't Apple sell them so people like me can buy off them if they don't have an inbuilt cam. Surely, they could've thought of that!

Thanks Emil. What about a headset? I mean...have you got a built in microphone? How does it work if you have?

I have a white imac (last generation) and a macbook pro (penryn) and occasionally use an aluminum imac, all with built in mics and all work fine. (I haven't had complaints that people can't hear mea, although I normally don't speak too loudly).

Later:

I saw this on the apple website, I have no idea if it would work on your model, but might be worth checking it out if you can

Basically official support for 3rd party webcams is a bit sketchy in Mac OS for the very reason that 99% of people don't need to buy one because of the built in iSight.

However there has been a big third party effort by open source developers to provide drivers for as many webcams as possible. You can find all the info at:

macam : USB webcam support for Mac OS X

They have a big list there of cameras that are supported. I tried macam on a 7 year old Logitech camera (of which I have no idea of the model number - it's got nothing written on it) and it worked absolutely fine.

How does Macam work? Do you just download the Macam driver? Do you have to download anything thereafter? The specific driver for the camera? I also want to know if you can use it with Yahoo messenger, MSN too?
