Anyone on BY Broadband?

It's apparently getting 50% faster.

http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyond...age=bbs_faster

I'd be happier if they just charged me 50% less for the speed I'm getting now.

"our research shows that the primary reason for adopting broadband is because of speed"

Genius.

Who you with? If it's BY you should be getting soemthing in the post in May. If it's NTL I guess the same will be happening.

If you're paying £30 I guess you haven't got the TV/telephone package with it which reduces the BB to £25.

More from ntl here:

ntl aren't so bad - a head sales bloke came round and we had words.
Quite happy now, but don't think I'd recommend them.

If you can get Blueyonder they supply you with the modem (or you can plug in to your STB). I think ntl is the same.

don't take their free modems - do you not wnoder why its free?!?!?!? 100 quid will get you a wireless router / firewall / dsl modem / bluetooth / network printer port and even if you can't afford all the wireless cards you need now for your machines you can always go old school and use a cable.

I dunno, my 'free' modem was a fujitsu one that was worth £120 (apparently) has done me proud.

I have very few problems with my connection and thats a wired connection through the set top box. I use a software firewall.

i was not commenting on the quality of the connection but more pressing people towards future proofing and expandability. i also want people to know that whilst it might be 'cheap' to accept the usb squashed frog that some isp's give away, its only going to give you hassle further down the line. i'm a believer in doing things once only and doing them properly. (i might not actually follow that in all cases but it is none the less a belief and i don't have many )

The free one I got with BY a few years back was a fairly robust ethernet modem come router affair - and was actually pretty good.

Agree with Brown tho - the cheapie usb ones are cack. Plus they take a small amount of your processers power where as ethernet based ones dont. Best avoided.
