Backup macbook from install disk?

Hey guys,

I instaledd CS3 and now my macbook hangs at boot time. I can only boot into windows. The only option I see is to re-install OS X, but first I need to create a backup to my external HDD. How would I go about doing it from the install disk?

Thanks

Put your install disk into the Mac, and hold down the C key while switching it on - it will boot from the install disk (DVD) into OSX. You should be able to access your startup disk (main hard disk) once it boots.

After it's booted, you can also run disk utility, which will repair your startup disk without needing to reinstall Mac OS X.

Or you can use disk utility to clone the HD (if needed) using the "restore" feature.
