Was planning on getting a couple of USB>bluetooth adapters to use with my new bluetooth-enabled printer (Epson R300).
Not being a techy guy, I'd assumed that given that there are USB2>Bluetooth adapter available Bluetooth would be at least as fast as USB1.

Just spoken to a guy in a local pooter shop who stated that sending print files typical of SoHo design setups is going to be painfully slow with bluetooth.
He said that I'd be much better off sticking with USB1 cables.

Is this true?
Would printing via bluetooth (just across a room) be painfully slow?

Anyone with experience of bluetooth and/or specifically printing from a pooter to a desktop printer (inkjet, fwiw™) via bluetooth?

Why do you want to use bluetooth if its just across a room?

It's preferable to running a 10m daisy-chain of usb cables around the edge of the room - I would have thought.

A WiFi Lan setup (print server presumably with an additional access point) looks like overkill given that I only want to reach one printer on the other side of the room.

Just wondered really as I'm wanting to rearrange my inkjet/laser/mac setup and am probably gonna run cables under the floor. Wondered if there was a specific reason for using bluetoof.

More than simply comp[aring the speeds, I was wondering if anyone used to printing via bluetooth could vouch for the perceived lag of using bluetooth over usb cable.
i.e. did it really feel slow?

The R300 printer will only be used for presentation prints so won't be getting a constant stream of prints to handle. Just as and when necessary.

In the absence of experience, I'll probably default to basing the decision on actual speed.

So… next question…

What's the effective limit to which you can daisy-chain usb cables?
I'd heard that no more than two was recommended (for one reason or another), but that was a bloke from Dixons, so…
(I've not seen a usb cable longer than 3meters on my various snooping around on and offline)

it is unbelievably slow unless you are just printing simple text documents. I have just been printing out some photos and went off for dinner for an hour or so and came back to find the tenth one just finishing!
