Well all the components I went for including the case were very hi-grade so I think I came out somewhere in the region of £800 including a 24inch screen. If you look up the osx86 project there is some easy tutorials out there, which are as basic as burning a disk image and loading.... I got one of these cases which looks sweet DSCF1015 on Flickr - Photo Sharing! |

The biggest downer about pc is its sub-pixel font rendering, quite frankly it looks shit, like the letters have been stabbed out of the screen with a pencil. Windows is also way to overblown for most tasks. If there is something simple to do windows will give you the most complicated way of doing it. I have owned and worked both mac and pc for a while so recon I'm qualified to speak on the matter. Ok-edited coops, think it's better now! Shit! Edited again. This is awful, I have forgotton how to write Last edited by CharmingMan : 11-03-2008 at 11:09. |

Apple have always avoided all types of activation on their OS, give 'em a break. The main issue with osx86 is having to sort everything yourself, it's not worth the time/hassle for me personally. Plus there are always odd things that can go right/wrong (Ethernet, volume control, verbose mode, video issues, cursor rendering, etc). In the end it's stealing though... poop to that. |

ah i doubt they would go as far as activation. how about some sly tweaks to the os in an update followed by a nice heavy legal document landing on likes of the osx86 projects lap. could make things fun. anti social marketing

I don't see that happening in the near future, they'll either start requiring OS registration or not. Osx86 will contribute to the need for activation which is v. annoying. Any OS tweak made by Apple can be untweaked by the osx86 guys over time, it's not worth Apple's time until the project gains real popularity. |

true. has to pose a real threat. but all it needs is for apple to lift a finger to put the hacks quiet and this'll be driven underground - an become much more difficult. also i can count on apple still supporting my computer for pure ages... what about the osx86 project? anti social marketing

Yeah, couldn't get rid of it, plus now that we've setup a studio space in our shared gaff it's useful as a simple access point in my bedroom. |

I've still got one of them bad boys at home. The missus wouldn't let me get rid, so it's boxed up and in the cloakroom at home. Should be a collector's item one day, she says. Mmm.... |
