Buy a New Laptop - Advice?

Hey! I'm looking to buy a new laptop that will be able to run heavier-graphic programs without slowing. So far, I've heard good things about Alienware and I was looking at computers on the Envy site and those looked pretty nice too. However, never having had to buy a laptop myself before, any suggestions?...

I got my Sager NP2090 from XoticPC and I've been very happy with it/them.

As far as what laptop you want, you can find lots of information and help here.

Thanks Mongoose!

illvibe - I actually, um, don't really have a budget. I thought I'd try and look at this from a not-monetary perspective first, and then start narrowing things down. <.<;;

So money is no object?

Is ease of portability a main concern? If not I like the look of these.

By the way the rock laptops I just linked you too can be customised to have a quad core processor and two graphics cards. It's one of the more powerful laptops on the market. Ships to the USA too.

Thats so sweet! I exactly what I need (want).

Been looking at 17" laptops, seen a few 20" but there a bit expensive.

Wow, that's like a super-laptop... gorgeous, though...

Portability will be important, though. I'm a student, and will probably be carrying it around with me a lot.

(As pretty as Macs are, I don't think I could really go with a Mac either. I've been a PC user for too long. Oh, the joy of being able to maximize windows...)

Hmmm. I think that looks bloody awful. It's like the laptop Homer Simpson would design.

OS X's windows have a maximise button, but it resizes to the size of the content it's showing (so full screen when necessary) rather than just filling your screen.

That's nice. I use Linux and I wish Ubuntu'd add that feature. I like how the OSX maximize button fits the window snugly in the top left corner too.

Minimise is the new maximise. I'm gonna buy me a laptop that minimises windows too.

That dell looks like a geek's orgasm.

that's just a rumour. (mbp at the end of the month) I for one am starting to getting tired to wait, latest thing was a pink nano. Apple now cares more for Steve's iphone rather the pro line, I'm afraid...
