Dead pixel?

Got a new samsung 22" monitor and I've lost 10 minutes of my life trying to scrub at (what I now know is) a dead pixel on my screen.

I only bought it 4 weeks ago - I think there's a 12 month warranty on this stuff that covers dead pixels?

I know it's just a wee pixel, but it's putting me off when I'm trying to use photoshop.

I bought it from Misco - has anyone had dealings with them on returning items? I've not had the best experience with them - I bought a Sapphire 512MB PCI express graphics card from them and when I tried to send it back they wouldn't take it becaue I'd removed it from the packet. Turns out the inside of this work PC is a PCI and not a PCI express as I was lead to believe. That's up for grabs if anyone wants to buy it off me, btw! Brand new, just taken out the packet only to be put back in a few seconds later.

Anyway, is a dead pixel enough to send back a monitor?

I think up to 5 dead'uns are allowed through at factories' quality control before a screen gets binned.
It would drive me batshit! I know why you want to return the thing but I don't think you're legally entitled to. Of course, you can always make a stink in the shop...

It is extremely annoying. It's right in the middle of the screen so I can't even ignore it. I'm going to take it back and have my (even) higher pitched whine voice on standby to make a fuss.

isn't there a way to trigger it back using flashing colours or something?

Yeah, take it back and explain nicely why it is so distracting - that you work very close up and are used to a pixel-accurate work standard so it really does make a difference. Start stinking only if politeness doesn't work!

I've had a look at Samsung's policy and it makes no sense to me: http://erms.samsungelectronics.com/c.../faqs_self.jsp

I'm going to just send it back to Misco and get a new one. It's right in the middle and it's very obvious. Will tell them what you said, steveb. Can't be having a dead pixel when I'm working with them! Would you sell a dead horse to a jockey?

Ok, maybe that's a bit too far...

Is it black or coloured? If it's coloured it's only stuck and can be "massaged" (small gentle circular motion with lint-free cloth) back into working order again (although it's more likely to get re-stuck than other pixels, etc).

I thought it was grey to start with, but it looks like it might be a yellowish colour. I'll give the lint-free cloth massage a go and see if it works.

Thanks! - just need to find a lint-free cloth now.

Don't do any massaging before you try returning it! You'll only scratch the surface and then they'll never accept it in return. There is no such thing as a lintfree cloth.
Oh - another bit of advice (which works for me) - if they seem a bit dubious at first, ask if you can exchange it for an upgrade to a slightly more expensive model.

There are some programs that change the screen color more than 30 times each second and can reactivate your screen. You should google for dead pixel removal. But it is not guaranteed to help
