I am looking output the monitor signal from my laptop to utilize my triple monitor setup. Currently, I have a desktop with a video card that supports this -- and it does just fine -- but I want the same functionality for my laptop WITHOUT having to crack open the case for a < 8 months old laptop.

The problem is, I tried one of these and it doesn't support the maximum resolution of the wide-screen monitors in my array:

Matrox - TripleHead2Go Digital Edition
(Matrox...not exactly a household name, but the product almost worked)

Now, I know some will say, just get this __________ widescreen from dell or apple, but that's not what I'm after. With the widescreens I have in this array, there's no single monitor that could match the total resolution.

If anyone can point me in the direction of an external video card (or another way to approach this), I'd appreciate it.

as far as i know, it's just not possible at the moment. there is the matrox solution you've found, or you could try one of samsungs new USB monitors, but that would involve buying an entirely new screen.

it's something i've looked into, i want to replace my Power Mac with a MBP, but still being able to use both my 20" widescreens.

the other thing is to use the screen in the laptop as your second screen.

another, thanks...that's more along the lines of help I was lookin for...

I saw those damn Samsung monitors just days after I got 2 of 3 widescreens. I may resort to ebay, but I'd rather find a solution to what I have currently...wide-screens as opposed to (what I think are not in) those new Samsungs that link up via USB.

While Matrox aren't such a big name these days, their cards are pretty much known for their dual-head capabilities, which would lead me to assume that if anything can do triple-head, it would probably be a Matrox card. If they can't provide a solution, it may be doubtful that you'll find one.

Wow...really? I thought if a smaller-name like Matrox did it, surely there'd be other companies as well whose cards may support higher resolutions across all 3 screens.

I found this over the past 24 hours: MaxiVista - Multi Monitor Software. Maybe that's a possible solution. I read the testimonial on the right side of the page and the bloke said "I'm all about the multiple monitors. Today, with MaxiVista I've found a new use for my new TabletPC - drum roll: As a third monitor! Freaking brilliant!"

I also found another external video card that was perfect...until I went to check out and it was over $1K.

I'm also looking into a PCMCIA Video Card which I've heard may be the least expensive solution to work along-side software.

Surely I'll find something...but please offer suggestions in the meantime.

oh 3 screens just isnt possible. i can tell you that there is no way of getting more than one standard screen to hook up to a laptop. even silly alienware laptops with sli-linked dual graphics cards and on board raid can still only have 1 external monitor. which is why people still buy desktops.

I'm looking for a site I found yesterday with an option that's going to prove you wrong. It was a +$1,000 option so it's not feasible for me right now...but an option nonetheless.
