Macbook with faster hard drive?

Depending on whether you chose a MacBook or MacBook Pro, seems you can get 4200/5400/7200rpm in various sizes. Not sure if the drives are SATA I or SATA II though, assume they are SATA I. The Mac Store configurator offer a pretty basic alteration in hardware specifications, and depending on the model you go for you can't get the faster drives.

I wonder if it is possible to buy a Mac with no RAM and hard drive, so you can buy the best stuff aftermarket without having to pay for stuff you have to remove. All this is pie in the sky anyway, as I have to actually save up for the bugger first! My budget is currently Mac Mini!

doubt apple will ever do that.

but i'm sure you could barter with the resellers, especially if you are also buying the drive/memory from them.

Apple wont do that ever... buy the cheapest config and do the upgrades yourself (sell the orginal kit).

Absolutely. Macs act like computers after you stuff them with additional memory. Did that at work to a G4 and it was like getting a major upgrade - speed, reliability, half the day goofing off while the machine was out of action.

I bought the 1.8Ghz C2D 512MB MacBook this year and it was really slow with almost everything. I bought 2GB of Crucial RAM for £50 and fitted it in about five minutes, now it seems to handle anything I throw at it.

I'm going to replace the 60GB HDD with a generic 120GB one in a few weeks, which again, will cost £50.
