Im possibly getting my 1st mac this week!
(student discount get about 8-15% off i think - plus free ipod nano)
Was going to get a macbook pro 17" one!

Which upgrades do you think would be best, i was going to go for the Hi res display (Matte not glossy)
Is the hard drive worth upgrading? It comes with the 160GB 5400rpm
but can upgrade to 160GB 7200rpm or the 250GB 4200rpm

are you doin any film work??.... if not then go for the larger HD not faster!!

Not really, only occasionally at uni but im only at uni for another 6 or so months. Stuff i do for myself is only basic video stuff (basic windows movie maker etc on the PC)
Costs about £80 extra for the upgrade hard drive (faster or the larger one) so may stick to the normal one if im not sure!

I Also record a lot of videos from my TV/DVD Player to the PC at the moment, but dont know if that would even be possible with the mac as i use scart to S-Video into the back of the PC at the moment and dont think there is any connections i could use anyway,

I wouldn't bother with the storage upgrade. For the same money you can get a separate 500 Gig 7200rpm external hard drive. Since you'll be getting Leopard, an external drive would also be handy for Time Machine.

Apple upgrades are always notoriously expensive. They've improved their overall pricing in recent years, but once you start tweaking the specs, you can run up a big increase pretty quickly.

Ive ordered it! cant wait for it to come now!
Should get it about 8th Nov!
Went for the Hi-Res display but didnt upgrade the hard drive (that was a extra £85)
Was a huge decision wether to spend so much money! hope its worth it! haha, im sure it will!
