Yeah it does look excellent. Just read a few reviews on it and they've all picked up on the vastly improved colour gamut... and for only £3 more!

I think I know which direction I'm going.

Fair enough, the Dell's £60 more, but it seems to have much more going for it.
Reviews for the NEC say that it's colours are fantastic though, how do they compare to the Dell? I'd assume better, but you should never assume anything.
as for color, the NEC kicks the Dells ass...period. but the DELL is 4'' larger and has a different resolution. its a matter of choice. they're both good enough

whatever your choice is, you might want to consider also buying a colorimeter..especially if you're doing print work.

I have two Samsung Syncmaster 931c's, and I love 'em. bought them because the reviews said they are good - they didn't lie.

Compared with older monitors that support only 82% of possible NTSC defined colors, this 19-inch Samsung SyncMaster 931C LCD displays nearly 100%. Useful for graphic designers, photographers, and anyone who wants an accurate representation of images on the screen, the 931C gives you 1280x1024 resolution and 2000:1 contrast ratio.

Seconding/thirding/fourthing the dell 2407. I have one and it's brilliant. Currently available on ebay for less than 400 quid. It's REALLY bright though. Seriously bright. I have mine set on 30% and it's only just not too bright. Picture quality is fantastic though. Not sure how it compares with really, really high end screens but it always gets rated higher than the Apple cinema display.
