Yeah macs crash. When I used to use PC it probably crashed about as much as my mac, which is not very often. Anyone who says, 'at least you don't get the blue screen of death' has probably never had a kernel panic.

I have seen worse things happen with a mac then with a PC, i have had it where text on a web page just starts dissolving away, all the fonts in office uninstalled themselves for no apparent reason, all the items on my desktop deleted themselevs for no apparent reason... I love macs but some strange crap happened with one I used.

For the same price of a decent Mac you can pretty much max out a PC.

very high end macs are cheaper than similar pcs.

i find the taskbar/dock to be the biggest difference. the taskbar gets cluttered when you have 4 programs open at once, where the dock doesn't look any different if you have nothing open or you have 20 apps open.

the mac encourages you to have more stuff open at once.

As a graphic designer, do you think it matters if I get a glossy screen? I heard it makes colours more vivid, whereas I'd need them to be normal.

glossy screens are 90% of the time a lot, lot better. the colours are impressively correct, and sunlight doesn't destroy visibility any where near as much as non glossy. you'd be able to use it in a cafe, for example.

some people don't like the reflections, but to be honest, you don't notice it.

I think with mac it is about having a 'mac' there individual, only apple makes them, and they do have that 'I'm a student who likes to fuck' look.

Where as a PC is more of a standard computer, there every where schools, librarys, cycber cafés, shops (virgin, hmv etc). And they don't have that 'look', any tom dick or dell can produce a PC, shell with microsoft //insert latest OS, oops that one crashes down grade to old one//

It depends what you want to use it for, the design/music/video production are largely done on a mac.
Where as surfing the internet for the lasted hack on halflife and n00bing out madcore styley is mainly done on PC.

But nowadays most programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, Pro tools etc are universal bare linux(?) but if your into video editing mac is probably best.

^^ reads as being biased towards mac, it is.

Well besides video/audio editing when it comes to the being a designer there really isn't much difference. It would be up to personal choice. It's only when you get down to other specifics that choosing a mac or a pc really gets tough.

Are people still talking about this? Macs are computers. Dells are computers. They do the exact same thing. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Pick one. Live with it.

And stop being arrogant pricks, all you Mac users. Hahaha!

I've worked on both Mac and PC. Macs are more stable and more user friendly. But the distance is getting closer and closer. On PCs you have the advantage of finding more available applications. The last movements of Apple kind of sustain my idea

@ all the PC has mroe software remarks. Thats bollocks. if you're a designer then all the software you need 9eg Adobe Products) work on both PC and Mac.

I do like being able to afford a PC though. My PC is 4x the speed of the Mac I priced up and I saved myself £300 in buying a PC> I will be buying a Mac but until then all i can say is the ones inn Toys R' Us work pretty well. :p

Oh and Vista is a rip-off of Mac. End-of.
