MacBook Pro or iMac 20"?

Hey guys,

I was planning at the end of the summer on buying an Apple laptop, and I'm still hesitating. I just saw that the 20" iMac is the same price as the 15" MacBook Pro in a store nearby. Although the MacBook Pro is portable, the fact that the iMac is 20" really makes me hesitate. What do you guys think?

there's too many reasons not to buy a mac at the moment - the new core duo's are on their way soon, as is the new version of OSX, and Adobe CS3 isn't out until next year at the earliest apparently, so you'll be stuck running Photoshop, etc, via emulation.

I agree. I've been hearing some horror stories about the new MacBooks overheating and getting discolored.

Also, with that hard drive on the MacBook, you're going to take a performance hit if you're editing large files - working with a lot of data. 5400rpm just doesn't cut it for me.

I just can't imagine paying $2,000 for something with those hardware specs. And if I were to spend $2,000, whatever I spent that money on would be my primary working machine - and a MacBook isn't going to cut it. Plus I hate trying to work on a little bitty laptop.

I guess I could live with it if I could buy a one of the Dell widescreen flat panels to use when I'm at my desk.

On the new Core Duos - http://intel.com/products/processor/core2/index.htm - and they're being released on July 23.

New OSX is end of the year, apparently.

I wouldn't touch the first-gen new Core Duo's when they come out either.

I'll most likely be waiting till Dec/Jan and getting either a macbook or a macbook pro

Damn, I was thinking of buying an Apple as soon as I could but I see now that I might wait 'till the end of the year.

PGO, I work on a Powerbook 17" and it works just great, wouldn't go below that though. Sure macs might be a bit mor expensive but I would never go back to a PC again.

And when it comes to the Macbook I would do like cam and wait for the next generation, or atleast for the Adobe release and maybe the new OSX. I never go for first generation hardware, you never know
