PC or Mac
Ok, this thread is NOT intended as a 'mine is better than yours' argument. I really can't face another endless debate over why the Mac is better/worse for design. I simply want to know what the percentage is of forum users who use one or the other, and if a design education has helped dictate which format you ended up on. I have my suspicions that one of the many reasons for the macs dominance is the deal they have going with cheap student software with universities. But anyway, lets see whos on what. |

I started this because I am off to do a MA course in Interactive Media next year, after having worked in the real world as a graphic designer/web designer/3d modeller for 5 years now - on PC. A laptop is a mandatory requirement. The media tutor seemed really surprised that anyone would even consider using a PC for the course, when I asked him what the benefits of a mac laptop would be, he told me about the special student prices for photoshop etc etc, but only open to Apple users. That and the fact that every other student will be on an Apple so file sharing might be a problem at times. My girlfriends sister is also on a design course, and she was surprised when I moaned about being pressured into buying an Apple over a (cheaper) PC laptop. She thought I was an idiot because didn't everybody know that designers shouldn't use PCs? All of her tutors use Apple, and expect Apple, but when I asked her WHY she used Apple over a PC - she couldn't actually tell me - I half expect her tutors couldn't either. Like I said - let not start fighting over that again, I think both do the job perfectly well, I just found it wierd that I'm going to be the only student with a PC. |

It's a fair point. I started out using PCs at college and my first work placement initially worked only with PCs. I moved over to Mac because I found it to have a more fluid interface. It's just another platform, and I don't see why this should be an issue when you want to use the tools that you are most comfortable with. |

Nothing. there's practically nothing in it ... I find there still seems to be something of a 'snobby' element amongst those mac users that feel they're amongst the elite - just because the box it comes in has smoother lines. Whatever. fuck signatures

definitely more kudos to using a mac but the actual benefits are dubious... unless someone can enlighten me? I personally have only ever used Mac for music production - the benefit in that field being the mac is more robust and less likely to crash than a pc |

I've been using a PC for the past 10 years, and i've JUST converted to Mac. So soon infact that it hasn't even arrived yet. I've just got fed up of having to upgrade my computer when it dies every 2 months. I think i'm still gonna use my PC for gaming ( |
