g4 imac v g5

i am mac hooked. i want one for home. do i go for

17" Superdrive
17-inch widescreen LCD
1GHz PowerPC G4
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX
64MB DDR video memory
1GB DDR266 SDRAM
80GB Ultra ATA hard drive
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
56K V.92 internal modem
Apple Pro Speakers
AirPort Extreme built-in
Bluetooth built-in

or

1.6 Ghz
1.6GHz PowerPC G5
800MHz frontside bus
512K L2 cache
256MB DDR333 128-bit SDRAM
Expandable to 4GB SDRAM
80GB Serial ATA
SuperDrive
Three PCI Slots
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
64MB DDR video memory

bear in mind no monitor with g5 and it does cost extra 300 quid. i think g5 but then will have to pay for decent monitor (formac - 450 quid)

its getting expensive then

If you're planning on keeping it for a while then i'd go for the G5. A 1ghz G4 aint that fast to be honest - i have a 733 G4 and it can really chug at times. Plus with an imac you are really limited when it comes to expandability - and you will want that second internal hard drive one day.

Is that true or just another excuse to say homebase?

He seems to be some kind of folk hero in Wales - got his own tv show and everything (Cable TV).
My girlfriend thinks he's well funny - 'he looks like animal out of the muppets'....

Spend Spend Spend... you feeling rich right about now then

I'd agree with Thompson for all his reasons, my G4 450 is nearing the end of it's time (still reliable as ever even if it does occasionally chug a bit) but it's served me well for 4 years, not bad going... as usual get the best you can possibly afford

It'll make a nice dedicated Server, or maybe the girlfriend would appreciate it - I ain't sure I should subject the poor thing to that though

[edit]it would appear I'm feeling very emotional this evening[/edit]

yep, get a g5. Id like, one, but my 4 year old G4/450 will do me for a bit yet.

Id only really want one for UT2K3 as my G4 doesnt really cut it for that but I really dont use my g4 much..

since i got an ibook 1 1/2 years ago, and now have just got my new 12" tibook which i use all the time as its just so much easier to sit in the front room with a laptop on my Habitat surfing table.

the tibook runs UT2K3 really well considering its specifically marked out as one not to use in the UT2K3 specs.
