Scott Hansen

A Californian based artist whose work fits perfectly into this post. He's a pure genius with negative space

Not sure about Scott Hansen. I have a love/hate thing with this guys work as I feel he regurgitates a lot of the same stuff, almost template-like. I do however like a lot of the stuff he references though. Meh, totally indecisive I know.

never heard of any of them.

probably should do some research as agencies always seem to ask "who're your favourite designers" and tbh i never really know what to say.

guess that's the downside of coming into the industry from a multimedia education as opposed to something like graphic design where i imagine you get taught about all the history.

Love Karel Martens' use of color, and Jacqueline Casey who takes a much more subtle approach with color, but still produces striking designs with use of shape and spacing.

All the designers featured in this thread are superb though, and provide much inspiration.

The Eames!

I'm a noob here so I can't post pics or links, but I have to throw Charles and Ray Eames into the discussion for influential designers.

Yes, they are primarily known for furniture design, but there were so much more than that. They design architecture, massive art pieces, industrial designs used in WWII for medical purposes, early powers of ten science pieces, graphic prints, EVERYTHING. This couple were true visionaries.

Peter Saville

I don't like everything he has done but most of it is pretty impressive.
His graphics was pretty gutsy for the time as well – some really unusual ideas
