Thankfully no! But here's a typical design to get you started with the background Dark Victorian style wallpaper download Then you'll need some bold slab serif fonts for headlines. Use lots of different ones on the same page! Use Times for body copy. There was no colour photography back then, only b&w. You could try colouring some b&w photos yourself for an authentic look. I'm assuming you have a brief to produce a Victorian-style website. Rather than look to see what someone else might have done, now's your chance to do something original. Show us what you come up with! My free fonts www.utfi.net

good heavens, you're right! @steveb: thanks for the reply, actually it's not a "neccesarily" victorian site, it's a wedding site, but since I've always appreciated the elegance and, IMO amazing design of victorian art, I thought I'd give it a stab--making my own. here's a small screenshot of what i have so far. I'm not really, mmm, pleased with it, so if you have thoughts, fire away. KEEP in mind, this is my very very first attempt at a "victorian site" and i had pretty much zero reference so I am a little lost, =P don't expect high quality, that's what you guys are here to help me achieve: Screenshot: ![]() thanks! [EDIT] I FORGOT to mention also, that that is NOT the picture I will be using for the website, it is just a placeholder. |

Good start, but the execution feels forced if that makes any sense. I'm assuming you just opened the document and placed the required elements in then arranged them until you found a balanced composition. Really think about what you need on the page and how the elements react/communicate with eachother. Pay attention to what the ornaments did for victorian pieces... how and why they were applyed. Also, the printing methods back then had restrictions -- be aware of them. I think this might help you create a "realer" emulation of the victorian style. Not to sure if I like the dark gradient with the black background. Feels cheap imo. Good Luck |
