Are you talking about the site or the work?

disclaimer - Design is subjective

The site mainly, but (in my opinion) the work on there's morbidly generic as well

there is beauty in simplicity, its much more difficult to produce work that is broken down to its core message than use colour and pointless decoration.

Can't say I'm into the tiny text too much, not with my eyes anyway. Zoom in a bit and it loses it's "style" a little bit. Interesting site though. Quite into the lost formats archive, although not 100% sure I'd put DVD in a "lost format archive", nor CD or memory stick though. They're certainly not lost formats.

the site [etock] is yes - however i feel thats the point.

In relation to the content its far from being generic and is actual far more interesting than the majority of folio sites out there.

I think it's more a case of "great content" rather than "great design". If the content was shit on both of those sites, the entire thing would suck.
