My code sucks but I still get plenty of work that my clients seem to like. I am gonna try and get better at coding soon tho, but making things look pretty comes first for me

If you ask me (which you all should ), a true designer/design team wants perfection in all areas of their work. You want to offer a complete solution, not some half finished shit.

Form and function.

Saw this on netdiver the other day. Sums it up nicely.

How does writing code relate to being a designer?

To be a better designer means you will have to know your tools and the environment you work in. If you are a print designer, you need to know what happens after you send a project off to the printer. The same goes for Web designers.
The job doesn't finish in photoshop.

True, but while knowing the theories and practices behind coding is obviously essential, that doesn't mean you can do them yourself, in the same way I'd never expect to go and run a printing press. What it does mean is knowing what you are good at, what you can and can't do and passing the work to the guys who can whenever you reach that point. Which is why mik employs you - yes?

That's exactly what I said - offering a complete solution. If you can't do it, get someone who can.

Slightly different.

Work with him, not employed by him. And our skills overlap, but together we shall inherit the earth!

He heh, sorry Stick, didn't mean to demote you there. And yes it appears we agree. I shall bow out and beat myself soundly with a stick.
