I'm very surprised that nobody has mentioned Blackpool and the Fylde College. It won the D&AD Award for student of the year last year plus runner ups. This year it swept the board with The National Business Calendar Awards. It's got some of the best courses in Britain. I am currently in my second year of Graphic Design BA(Hons). A fantastic course. I've covered everything. They have contacts in London and Newyork. This is handy as it means there are job oppurtunities in both major cities. I hope that's helpful. The website is abismal but here it is. www.blackpool.ac.uk I did notice someone talking about how great Leeds University is. For such a good course it's a shame they can't spell. lol. Just kidding. No offence meant. |

I agree with Subtract, Im at Salford now and the rate in which I have progressed is amazing. They really give you a kick up tharse and get you moving in the right direction. Within the last few months I have learnt to appreicate and treat illustration and type far more then I ever had. Really makes you feel creative and they really help with getting you into the design industry circles. |

I know a few people who went there and hated it, not so much the course but the place! Unfortunatley I have family from Fleetwood and i visit once a year thats enough! Like Narate says Salford does kick you up the arse and gets the best out of you and now I can honestly thank them for it as Ive been a successful designer for 2/3 years |

I'm at Bath Spa and it's terrible, Salford sounds amazing, I wish I had gone there or tried at London College of Printing. At the end of the day I am missing out on a good quality education being where I am but I'm motivated enough to do my own thing and I think that's what's important. |

I had a friend do a bio-chemistry course there. She enjoyed it and came out with a decent degree and ended up with a good job. She liked the Uni and Sheffield. Can't comment on the Graphics Course in any way though. Sorry. |

You didn't mention where you live. What if I say, "TAFE" and "Curtin University". Have you heard of them? If no, you don't live in Australia. It's impossible to ask "Which University does the best Graphic Design course"? There is NO best graphic design course in uni/college. Forget the WON award - no one cares. |

I've got a load of prospectus' through recently, Bristol, Luton, Manchester, Lancashire, Salford, Huddersfield, and Camberwell (University of Arts London). Camberwell's easily the best so far, and i should be getting one from St Martins soon. Is London that much better? |

I've just finished my second year at Leeds Met BA in Graphic arts and design, its a hugely conceptual course where you write a Learning Agreement, a brief you reflect, propose, negoatiate, implement and evaluate which is relevant to your work. For me I'm a typographer though most of my work heavily relies on information graphics and exploring fact. Before I got into the met I'd already done a Btech in Graphics at Oxford and then I did a years foundation with a A-level in photography and another in animation. When you go to interviews they are more interested in your personal work than the work you churn out of your foundation course. I loved my foundation and it helped me explore all angles but all of my tutors have said that foundations are like a factory of getting you to a standard but they always prefer to see what you do away from college. I can't deny that my course is bloody hard but I love it, your not spoon fed, you have to think for yourself and you have to get your arse in gear to get your grades. Your not taught how to be a *designer* you can learn that from a book or two weeks working within a studio environment. I would recommend going to a good university that you feel will benefit your needs for three years, then consider doing your MA at a prestigous college/uni like Goldsmiths or St.Martins or the college of commumication. I'm considering doing my MA at Reading University in Information Design. If you do apply to Leeds met I won't lie to you and say its easy, 30 people applied from my foundation and only 3 of us got on, one of my tutors told me they had 800 applications last year and the course only has 100 spaces for each year, but goodluck in what ever you decide Bec |

hey hopefully i can help on this and i'm not too late,,, i did a foundation at falmouth college of art,,, aparently the best in the country,, and it was ok,,, you do develp your skills and its extreamly useful, it also helps with social skills before goignt o uni, after that i did a degree in fine art at guildhall london,,, this wasn't great, fine art courses are fun but not that many people are ever in, and i realised fine art wasnt my thing,, so now 2 years in i have left and going to do a ba in graphic and comunication at leeds, this course looks amazing, the building is amazing and the studis are beutiful.... also its out side of london, i didnt like living in london very much.. leeds college of art and design does an excelent advertsing corse i think its a foundation thing but much better if advertising and graphic design is your thing.. ive heard really good things about it and this would be instead of your foundation in art.. aparently they sort you out with shed loads of contacts for when you leave as well,,,,, also look into d and ad advertising courses,, these are what you do if you wanna play with the big boys.... i know the creative director of a huge company in london and he said that himself and everyone huge did one of these first.... hope ive helped email me if you need anymore help, ive wasted too many years figuring out the best rout to take.. email mrjrcallahan@gmail.com ps ive heard better things about leeds uni than leeds met not sure if this is true though, just what ive heard,, the met course is alot more hands on where the uni course is more digital, which could come in use these days. ?? |

Come the fuck on, there's blood building up in the corners of my eyes. ![]() It's there for a reason. Also helpful - http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/ It's not easy to read a solid block of text without capitalization, complete sentences, and semi-correct spelling. There may be good advice in there, but I didn't bring my decoder ring or any aspirin. |
