Sign help

Hi I am in need of some help for a uni project i have been asked to do

We have been asked to make 3D signs for some departments of the British museum. They to be purely pictorial

basically i am asking for some advice on how to approach this project as i have never done anything like this before and was hoping some of the people on here had done something similar and could offer some advice.

first of all, what type of stuff is there in the museum? is it a common theme throughout (like in the US, we have some Civil War museums, with different sections in those), or does the museum have a broader scope?

sorry should of made it clearer the British museum has stuff from all over the world ranging from Egypt to America.

The main question i am asking is how to approach the 3D side of it. Would i go threw the same design process i would a poster(while keeping in mind it is going to be 3D)
or should i take a completely different approach

I don't want to sound harsh here, but I think your uni wants you to solve the problem yourself. If you get suggestions here on what to do, how could you finally pass it off as your idea? Could you take any satisfaction out of it in the end?

I think (I'm not sure) that he wants ideas on the process of creating a 3d poster, not ideas of what it should look like.

My point was that he should practice to use his imagination a bit more to come up with a solution instead of running to the nearest forum for a quick answer.

What I meant to say was that I think he is looking for any information on a workflow process for creating a poster, not a "what should I make it look like" thing. I think he wants to know how he should go about doing it, not asking for ideas for the project itself.

I think you should follow the same steps, just about.
Brainstorming, sketching, modeling, creating textures, etc, rendering?

I guess the final work will be a little different to creating a poster or logo or whatever. Rather than just simply printing a concept you've designed, I'd imagine you'll be required to mockup realistic visuals of the 3D stuff actually where you'd have it at the museum.

So with this in mind, you might need to think about how you want to present the final concept and what photography will be required as a backdrop to your 3D stuff.

this is exactly what you should do, but during the sketch process you should sketch out where the main edges of the polygon / nurbs will be, making the modeling process easier.
