Not technically a designer as yet, still a uni student at QCA. Studying a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication) of course! I just found this forum - and seeing as there's someone from Brisbane here I thought I'd sign up .

Do you even have the need for design there? Isn't all just crocs and snakes and funny accent? Maaan, you can't trust Discovery Channel one single bit.

Whats your story?

I'm fresh out of school, and was sick of doing chemistry and physics, so I canned engineering and decided my calling was coming from the creative industries. I applied at Griffith to do animation, they accepted my folio, but I switched back to design at the last minute. I guess I figured I'd prefer a more general line of work. If you can call design general :P.

I've been interested in drawing and design for awhile now, and have recently done some 3-d work as well. But most of my knowledge comes from tutorials, books and what I could figure out on my own, and I was really interested in getting a more rounded set of skills from people who have actually worked in the industry. The people at Griffith are really inspiring, so thats also a bonus!

Enough waffling - how about you? Whats your background? How did you get into design? Do you work in a studio, or freelance? And what does it take for somebody get a design job in this town? Especially for a first year student looking for experience!

Well, depends on your portfolio I spose. I graduated from Monash uni last year, don't think most people had too much trouble getting something.
