You can't do it in Illustrator, which is one of the reasons why Freehand is better. Everyone on here uses Illustrator except me.

Haven't gotten around to looking into using InDesign yet but Freehand was a perfect combination of vector artworking and document layout for print. V8 had a decent image import function too which Adobe doesn't seem to have integrated into any of it's software.

not the same thing. in freehand you could have a file with, for exampleys; a business card, letterhead and an A2 poster sitting next to each other.

very handy for working on a campaign/design running across different formats.

much prefer the illustrator interface myself, even though i started out with freehand back in the day.

disappointed some of good freehand features didn't make their way into cs3.

roll on cs4.

pencil and paper, how over rated, lets face it we all want to stay true to our design roots so we say we love the design process of finalizing solutions on paper, but how many of us have at some stage been pulled to the keyboard by the sweet scent of cheating the system by leaving the thumbnails and working straight from the dome. GO THE DOME, AND FREEHAND AND PHOTOSHOP

I just like to use pencil and paper to block out ideas/layouts at the early conceptual stage particularly with logos and illustrations i am not a huge fan i drawing with a mouse freehand.

GO PENCIL AND PAPER

Pencil and Paper FTW. I'm still trying to get used to my wacom tablet. (wishing I had paid for the bigger one).

The nice thing about pen and paper is that you can go back through all your brainstorms and trial designs for that project or even hash through the old ones to see if something that didn't fit one project might fit a new one. On a pc most people if like me, delete and are done with it.

Programs I use:
Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Final Cut, 3D Studio, Director, Notepad, Dreamweaver

I think pencil and paper forces you to think for yourself and be more original. Because it's a pain to erase bad ideas, you end up thinking things through a little more too.

After that, it's on to Photoshop for web stuff, Illustrator for logos and print.

I usually get my ideas and basic compositions down on paper then I'll put it into Photoshop. I just got Illustrator yesterday, and I'm still trying to get used to it so later on that will be my main program. My Wacom tablet sits in the corner collecting dust
