Calling all Graphic Designers and Font geeks! Logo design - font suggestions?

Hi there. I am just starting a project to design a new logo for a new business which is for golf club grips. The client has specified the logo needs to be 'fresh and funky'. I asked them what type of existing logos they liked, and they said Surf brands. Having only designed really corporate stuff before, I am really struggling to find any fonts that inspire me and was wondering if anyone could suggest anything, fonts they've used in the past etc??

thanks! As a thank-you, I'll post up the logo when it's been done!

You're too kind!

Have you tried having a look through some free font sites, such as dafont.com?

Yes some - but not really sure which catergories to look through. Not sure what genre 'fresh and funky' may fit into?

"Fresh"?

Both those fonts are damn near 15 years old and they were retro then!

It's the way you alter the typeface to get it fresh and funky! Believe me... these are both good typefaces to start from...

BTW why can't retro be fresh?

funky should never be used when describing the look of something. it should be banished from the english dictionary immediately. a could cringe at the amount of times a client has asked for something 'funky' looking.

fonts wise - i like Nobel, GeoSansLight,

Golf and fresh/funky, are on completely different pages.

Product research?

Something neo-classical might work. I think surf is well out of scope unless handled really carefully. Golfers and surfers rarely mix man.

The best logo in golf is Titleist. Nice mix of simple heritage type - feels reassuring. Shame their branding and website are so 'maclaren pro gillette ultimax' naff.

Have a look at some of these logos...

Brand Listing at american golf

The Oakley one should be the sort of style you should be going for.
