My first suggestion would be to read up on Orientalism and Edward Said.

Or you could just make some super cool Japanese Kanji character that symbolizes something completely badass and original, like peace, harmony, strength, or creativity. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHHH!

Lots more to Asia than Japan, of course. And there are dozens of writing systems throughout the continent - prettier ones, too! A Buddha figure would be a more generic symbol and acceptable throughout the West because he hasn't yet knocked down any skyscrapers.

Asia is way too broad. Every country is very different here. You run from East Asia (Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan) where each culture is dramatically different, to South East Asia (Phillipines, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia etc) where everything is extremely different again, to South Asia (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan etc) which are different again.

About the only thing I would say is consistent through them is that there are people in every country. There is no common language, no common skin color, no common religion, no common food. Its like trying to come up with a symbol for the western world - you have West Europe, N. Ameirca and Australia, all very different.
