Pentagram at D&AD
Just got back from seeing Pentagram speak at the D&AD President lecture. I've been looking forward to this for months and months, Pentagram have been the benchmark of all that is great in design for me, I had some idea in my head that they were all some sort of design gods. My bubble's bust. They turned out to be 8 well-spoken middle-aged toffy suits, and one woman, didn't show any work, but spoke for two hours about how Pentagram is ran. Ok, it was interesting, but for two hours, I became kind of bored, being an admirer, most of what they said I already knew. I was hoping they were going to show some work, and explain some of their thinking behind it. Gutted. Anybody else go, and if so what did you think? |

No... I missed that, sounds like a lucky escape. Surely the whole idea is to showcase their work??? The last one I went to was The Design Conspiracy at D&AD, I got the impression they were going to be revolutionary, how wrong was I. I had to hand out the Pro Plus. I hear that The Designers Republic do really interesting lectures. Last edited by mindbomb : 23-05-2007 at 07:15. |

Yeah Designers Republic talks are good. A couple of hours listening to Ian Anderson spoof talk about football and other random things. In between there was a lot of good work on show. Just a really laid back and totally informal lecture. Thats the way it should be...not like those pentagram stiffs. |

It wasn't a bad talk, I just think I was looking forward to some eye candy, which I didn't get. Good review here by Ben of The Design Conspiracy. Sub, I heard about this event through D&AD website, and if you're a member you get emails and stuff, bit sharp at £130 quid mind, but for that you get to visit 3 lectures for free and get a few discounts, plus the Annual. There's one talk left, in Manchester, by Hilman Curtis |
