Ethnic Design - colour theory
It looks as if we have secured a 3 year contract with the Welsh govenment to cater for all creative output / consultation concerning developing Ethnic businesses in the Wales and the UK. (end of trumpet solo) I was wondering whilst producing their ident about cultural issues concerning colour. Are we so pc that people may frown upon using browns, black, red, yellow etc as they could be attributed to colour / race. What are peoples views or has anyone done similar work? thanks |

Is it an issue that they've mentioned or just something that's come to mind as a potential issue? Personally, I wouldn't stress over it. If you still do, produce the same design in a brief range of colour-schemes and let them choose (read: take the blame). As long as you're not designing with an overtly nationalistic or race-related colour scheme in mind, then I'm sure the job will turn out problem-free on that score. The more you concern yourself with it, the more likely you are to be reacting in favour or against certain schemes based on their possible, unfavourable interpretation. Allowing yourself and your work to be effected by that kind of reactionary pressure goes against the ideals of race not being an issue whatsoever. |

No they havent mentioned anything - just a potential mind fuck. wise words. the designs arent overtly nationalistic or race-related. If anything they could be deemed "overtly welsh" - red/green pastel shades!! so i dont think it will be an issue. always nice to be reassured |
