Illustrator Masking

Calling all Illustrator Gurus:

I can mask in Flash just fine, and Photoshop masking nice and easy, but I'm stumped on masking in Illustrator.

I'm sure it's incredibly easy to do, but I can't get my head around it. Can I make a sublayer a masking layer? Or a normal layer a masking layer?

Cheers,

James

as far as I know (not an illustrator expert though) -

- you don't need any sub-layers.
- bring you mask shape to front, select it as well as the graphics you want masked and go: object> clipping mask> make...

I think that's it... but maybe not

depends on how you want to use it. Are you just wanting to, say, mask off part of a shape?

Yeh, for all sorts of things really, but mostly masking photos.
