MadeThought

Went to a talk tonight by two of the four guys that are MadeThought.

Was really good, some of their work is fantastic and was interesting to hear how some of their projects came about (especially the work for Stella McCartney) and their thoughts on the designer-client relationship and so on. I actually had no idea they'd been in charge of Grafik (a magazine I buy regularly) for a year, especially as it's quite different in style to the majority of their work, which i'd say tends to be more refined/elegant and aimed at a higher-end market. Then again, I often don't read all of Grafik and just pick and choose the articles with graphics in a style that interests me..

Anyway, I'm sure a lot of you are already familiar with their work, just wondering what you graphic designers think of them?

Think they are great, didn't they emerge from North? Love the stuff they did for the barbican's Jam exhibition.

Yeah, they did. Said last night they loved it there but North were moving towards large identity projects all the time due to the amount of money those projects make, so the two of them left to setup on their own. Also said they don't think they'll expand beyond the core creative team of 4, instead using freelancers for specific jobs when they need extra help

Basically, they were sharing an office with an architect who were doing some work with her and when she visited them she happened to see some of MT's work on the walls and it was similar to what she wanted for her branding, so they were hired. After doing work with her, they began to get approached by high-end clients looking for similar jobs, and they've just went on from there. Right place, right time and a lot of talent basically
