Disagreeing with design portals...

Do you ever find yourself disagreeing with design protal's sense of aesthetisc?
I mean, clicking on a link that's supposed to be 'fab'... just to discover that strange feeling of paranoia - is something wrong with [i:7d734eb97b]me[/i:7d734eb97b]?

yep definately, some of them I would not consider to be great design especially some strange creation looking like someone vomited on your montor and then you have to click around in the sick to find the links! er does that make sense?

I'd have to agree, you do tend to see cr*p posted on these portals just because that style is 'in' at that time or it is by a specific designer or agency considered to be 'cool' etc.

Out of interest, has anyone found a design portal that isn't just there for back-slapping. I'd like to use them for inspiration, but they are usually so shit - there must be some...

The only one I revisit is www.coolhomepages.com and that's not fantastic.

Here are some great resource or 'news' sites that are entrenched in my bookmarks:
www.moluv.com
www.bd4d.com
www.k10k.net
www.projectneo.com
www.valyard.com (back soon hopefully)
www.newstoday.com

I'm going to be making my own portal of inspirational links on my site, which is undergoing a huge redesign anyway, mainly out of frustration of the lack of inspiration from the above sites.

Don't forget: inspiration comes from the off-line world as much as it does from the on-line one.

ta very much Some of them are new to me, so thanks for that people. I'll have a look around.

Neave - Good luck with the redesign. I used to play around on your site quite a bit, until you got a job and it went eerily quiet. Did they kidnap you or something?

Sadly no, that would have been more interesting. Just been bogged down with work as usual! Hopefully once I've got the redesign outta the way I'll be in and out the forums like a rat up a nightie (or something like that.)

Another cool design forum is [b:a61e3f478b]YayHooray![/b:a61e3f478b] - lots of witty if slightly nerdy people in there.
