How to give up coffee (caffeine)

You know, this might be really boring to some of you, but I actually cut caffeine out my diet completely for about four months and it's shocking how much of a positive effect it has. I'm back to maybe a can of coke or something a day (i don't drink tea/coffee), so i'm not doing all that badly, but i've been thinking about cutting back again.

Then i came across this article which has forced the issue. What about you guys, how much caffeine/coffee do you get through per day?

I have redbull in the mornings and about 5-6 cups of tea a day, If I dont go to the gym after work I dont get to sleep till about 2 in the morning. It is bad, caffeine's basically a bit lower down the same familty as ephedrine and amphetamine etc.

Good for you, Cam.

I don't drink that much coffee,
maybe a cup every couple
of days, when I need to stay up
late.

I've been smoking
for about six years (since 7th grade )
but managed to stay away from the cigarettes
in the last five years (since first
year of college).

we used to have a free coffee vending machine at my old work - it gave me double sweet and extra milky mocha coffees about 10 times a day - I put about a stone on in three months. Had to switch to slightly sweet tea and felt much better for it

Saying that, the weight's back (work at home ), and I'm drinking coffee right now (I've Discovered those -rombouts one cup coffe maker things )

Diet Coke. About a liter/day.

Why? Because I'm a smoker and I need something to drink whenever I'm smoking. Otherwise my mouth gets all filmy and nasty feeling/tasting. I hate smoking.

Coffee now and then - can't drink too much because it makes your pee stink.

I switched from coffee to a thing called "yerba mate". It's a plant stuff from Brazil, you make it like a tea. It's got more caffeine than coffee but it's supposed to be healthier. Don't really care but it gives a nice kick

How is it possible that it has more caffeine yet is healthier (even though you don't care)?

I've had it before...good stuff, but it had me flying higher than a double espresso. BUT...I don't drink coffee or drink/eat much of anything that's caffeinated, so I'm not much of a test subject.

Yes, I said "eat" anything caffeinated...you know...those chocolate covered espresso beans...

I'm with Oli if I don't go to the gym everyday then I just can't sleep. I don't smoke or drink tea/coffee. I just can't stand the taste of coffee. Its like when you play Russian Roulette with a packet of Revels because nobody wants the coffee one. I also have a really hard time waking up in the morning, so I thought maybe I should get into drinking coffee. I bought some Cappucino stuff to try..tastes a bit like Tirimisu? which isn't a bad thing...but so far I can only drink half a cup then throw it away, basically trying to force myself to like it. Doesn't seem to give me that wide awake feeling thou :/

Not amazingly keen on the taste of coffee but I'm really put off because it gives you wicked breath too. Might just as well chew on a clove of garlic.
