A wonderful place - grew up just a couple hours away. Last time I went was April '03 (or was it '04...). Anyway, stayed in a hotel just off Times Square, ate at a restaurant called "Above" (I think), which was "above" the Hilton Manhattan (or some other equivalent hotel). Caught "The Play What I Wrote" on Broadway, finished with drinks in the hotel bar. I recommend checking out the new Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) as it looks fantastic. Pity it wasn't finished when I was last in NYC - had to go to the temporary replacement in Queens. Have fun - it's impossible not to. |

If you are looking for an interesting place to watch the amazing cross section of new yorkers spend and hour or two sat in Washington Square park. You'll soon find what the city is all about - rollerblading blondes, drug dealers, people walking 14 dogs (at once), homeless schitzophrenics, MTV news crews, students, business lunchers, chinese folk playing majong, rabbis playing chess with 'african americans'..... It's epitomises the "Melting Pot" and is my favourite place in new york to take photos of people cos you have absolutely no clue what is coming next. Up the Empire States Building for sun set will give you a wicked panorama of the city The Bitter End is a cool club - and flag limo's down instead of cabs after you have been out - you'll find if you agree the cost the'll cost about the same as a yellow cab (+ cigars oh and take a neck brace... |

Yup, you will not believe the scale of the buildings till you get there. My best advice would be to take a take a good camera with you everywhere, the scope for upping your stock image collection is endless. |

I spent a lot of the time in Soho and Grenwich village. You should definately make you way over there..Soho is really cool. Washington Sq park is on the way - You can walk from say.. Madison Sq Gardens area right down through the village and soho. yeah, empire state building is a good option for pics of the city. One place I really liked was "Katz deli" which is a famous old deli http://www.katzdeli.com/ pretty mad in there and authentic NY from the past. Limbo> you were saying about Washington SQ park and not knowing what comes round the corner ...when I was passing through, they were holding a dashund festival with hundreds of the wee buggers. |
