"Meme" is indeed one of the most obnoxious, pretentious terms floating around. Zeldman uses it constantly - probably in every post on his blog. This recent music baton circle jerk makes me want to wretch. Sorta glad I'm not in that "web standards blog club". "Meme" is right up there with "zeitgeist".

Words I hate - blog, blogger, blogging, blogosphere, and all iterations of it.

I don't have a problem with blogs as a concept - if their intent is to inform, discuss, or editorialize.

What I find obnoxious is things like the above. Who cares how much music is on your hard drive and what CD you bought recently. I know I don't.

But if you want to inform me of a new image replacement technique, or discuss <meta> tags, or talk about why George W. Bush is a complete fucking fascist - fine, I'm interested.

Otherwise, not really.

The only exception is Dooce.com. For some reason, I read that one every week or so. I think it has something to do with humor/humanism and quality writing that can really add quite a bit to a description of someone's life - more like a biography than self-fellation.

Either that or I'm even more bored at work than I thought.

I also read a lot of blogs (well, mostly web dev/design ones) and I have to agree - I can't stand the terms "meme" or "blogosphere".

New neighbors moved in across the road today. It was really quite fascinating to watch them move in and to see the contrast between their stuff and ours. Like, they had a 29" TV whereas ours is only 27" and they had 2 loveseats and an armchair whereas we have a sofa and two armchairs. They have a green rug and we have no rugs at all. With all of these differences between our family and there's I just don't see how we can ever get along as neighbors!
