Web Accessibility: Nielsen Knows Everything Really
![]() Jakob demonstrates to the deaf community how to say his name in sign language at the recent launch of his new book: Web Accessibility: Nielsen Knows Everything Really. (yeah I know it's badly done but I got to get to bed sometime) |

Oh yeah and he goes on about usability but how usable is his own donkey testicle of a site? (no offence meant to donkey testicles) Sure it may be good for blind people (since they don't have to look at the pathetic effort) but what good for those of us with eyes? Has the man, and I use the term loosely, ever heard of columns? Does he know how horrible it is to read a page of text at full screen width? Doesn't he know that you really should have some kind of navigation on a site if you want it to be useable, rather than a mass of text links running all over the place. |

for one, his homepage is totally unreadable according to studies of how much text people can read in one line, my screen is 1440 pixels wide. I think the standard is 468 or something sensible. Although try telling this to anyone who knows it all about accessability and they just don't get it - ranting that their site meets all standards and works on the commodore amiga. at least his homepage doesn't look like its for selling water purifing products or pantyliners, huh seen.to? I do agree with you, he's seen as a nonce. But why, if hes so stupid, does he give regualr talks, advise large corporations for top dollar and write books that sell in good quantities? I think web designers don't like him is just because everyone at heart is a know it all, and when it comes to web he's up against stiff competition of know it alls. He admits in one of his books he has no skills in making things look nice, hence the lame site, but one of his recommendations is to have consistent navigation. I don't agree with everything he says, but he's right when he says there's too much "design bloat" and marketing jargon on websites, and not enough clear communication. |

You think my site looks like it's selling one of those things? If so, do you want to buy some pantyliners - only slightly used. |
