Do you need to have the Nike + trainers for this to work?

When placed under the sockliner of the left Nike+ ready shoe, the sensor measures your pace, distance, time elapsed and calories burned. This information is transmitted wirelessly to the receiver for real-time feedback. Learn more.
I want to buy the sports band to use, but not gonna pay another £70 extra to get some trainers that work with it.

No, you can use any trainers, you just need to attach the sensor :

re: Kilomathon

What's broken about half-marathons that a Kilomathon fixes?

I've not run since February. Went from doing 200k/month to nothing.
Gone up a belt size and need to get myself back down t'gym soonest.

Its the extra distance and the timing of the race so it can be used as a warmup for the london marathon.

Forget the pouch, it sucks. It is not 100% acurate, and will screw you every now and then. The sensor is piezo-based, it measures by shock when your foot hits the ground. The sensor is designed to be under your foot.

I used to dig a hole inside my insole with an exacto knife and snugly put the sensor there. Much better.

Ive used it with a proper pair of Nike+ trainers and now I use a pouch - haven't noticed any difference. I wouldnt cut your trainers as this will probably affect the shock absorbtion of them.

Couldn't find anything to do with this on my touch. Or in the apps thing.

I think you're all making it up. As if Nike's a real company anyway.

It won't, the proper nike+ shoes have a hole for the sensor on the exact same place so why should it matter ?

I started out using the pouch when I started with Nike+. As I had nothing to compare with, I was happy. After few months though, I noticed that a certain part of my route that is always the same every time I run gets logged a little differently, what used to be 600 meters was 430 or something. I tried to adjust the pouch. Once after finishing my usual route the sensor only picked up about 40% of it, and that was it for me. I took the knife and dug out a hole for the sensor just like the proper nike+ shoes have, I will admit it was rather difficult, but after that I instantly noticed getting more constant results, and my usual routes started logging more distance than ever.

The point is, after learning how the sensor works, are you going to trust the pouch ? The sensor measures if you have run 2km or 2.5km based on how long your foot stays in place after hitting the ground - so we are talking fractions of seconds. I would say there is a difference where on your foot will you place it.

It only works on the second generation iPod Touch. If you have that, you just go to settings and you should find the Nike+ there.

Bollocks. Another kick in the teeth for the early buyer.

Guess I'll just use my shuffle.

Because Nike+ trainers are engineered to have that hole, other trainers are not - I use asics gel, I can imagine fucking them up if I cut a hole where the Nike+ one is.
