dt shennanigans
Whats happened to all the showcase/critique threads? They seem to be slowly disappearing or being replaced with annoyingly amatuer ones. I think this forum is just turning into a general discussion where everyone tries to post witty/amusing comments, about pointless crap. Which, don't get me wrong can be fun but when there isn't any serious design/illustration/web discussions going on...what's the point? It's dangerously close to becoming stale, new members get "DT" flamed, where as a newcomer they might find this offensive having not gotten used to the wacky cuntish humour here, so instead of hanging around to get use to all the shenanigans going on, they leave, this could be a reason for no decent creative professionals joining. I've been debating whether or not to post my new site I've been working on, what puts me off however is the torrent of pointless comments the thread will recieve, from many who I know are consumate professionals, it just seems that DT slowly turns people into giggling school boys/girls. As much as I like this forum and its community, sometimes I just feel "meh" why am I even here, reading for the most part drivel. Off the top of my head I can only think of one user who consistently provides detailed advice and helpful comments. I'm not saying I do, as I myself post pointless pish, thats it though, there isn't much of anything interesting to bother with writing a helpful/critique comment. |

I agree Doodle, shame there isn't a secret forum where trusted members can post their work and get some real constructive crit off their peers away from all the 'personal logo's and websites for my parents etc' |

I think that's two separate issues you're talking about there, Doodle. The influx of spammers and brand new designers is definitely rising. But do you have to take the good with the bad? 3 crap members for that one good member who has a good portfolio? As for the giggling boys and girls, I'm afraid that's what you get when you've opened a forum to people sometimes! I tried to resurrect the competitions thread the other day but nobody was having it. |

When people are learning and post a site in the help section to ask for feedback and are willing to accept it, they usually get useful responses. When people are learning and post some crap that they made in 10 minutes in the showcase, they won't. It's not often that someone posts something that is good or at least a vast improvement from what they previously posted and they just get slagged off. The problem is that people use the Showcase forum as the help forum, it's not showcasing if it's a sketch of a logo, that's looking for help. |

On a serious note, the big influx of spammers and one post 'how do I build a website' cunts is down to the SEO magic of this site, victim of its own success really. Shame there aren't more regulars too, what have we got 100-200 regulars? Out of 50,000 'members' that's a pretty poor show. Then again, as Mr Flip said, most new people get called cunts or told to fuck off on their first thread so maybe not too surprising really. |

It fluctuates wildly like it always has - at least from my time on DT. At the moment we do seem to have an influx of chumps who think they can pick up design in five minutes and start selling their services which is pretty depressing but oh well, hopefully it'll pass. |
