Website Idea
I have an idea for a website that I am planning to build. Difficult to describe the concept, but basically it will be a blog or web based magazine for idiots. It will have sections, on books, fashion, design and film and maybe a forum. I want the tone of it to be similar to trashabat on the Nathan Barley. I want it to capture some of the barmy attitude of todays fashionistas and have a userbase similar to this site. Im looking for ideas on what i might include in the site, anything really. Could be completely random. Any ideas folks??? realise this is a bit obtuse |

I dont mind putting the time into creating it. I have always thought that i might have a good website in me its just getting the concept. I have no idea how i would moneterise it, but thats not really important, i think that sie can grow organically. Its more important that captures an audience or an attitude. I have a friend who is shit-hot at writing and i hink this would be a good platform for some of his musings |

Well if you want to "moneterise" anything, adverts and sponsorship is the way to go. Alternatively, you could try getting a host to sponsor you too, in lieu of a hosted by link somewhere on the page. A good thing is to make it more user-orientated, so the user base builds it more, or has some direct control over it. I'd always think about the money making principle that most entrepreneurs follow; make the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time, using the least amount of effort and capitol. Best way is a user-grown environment. Now, if you check the above, then you’ve eliminated the need to pay for server costs, worry about content overly, and have people more than willing to sponsor articles about them, interviews, and advertise on your site. I’d personally stand clear of google adverts as best as possible. They’re so horrible, obtrusive and badly placed at times. If you do it on your own, try to have two or three people from different parts of the world update it too, so it's constantly being updated, which in turn is great for search engines too. Try maybe have an online store too? Hmm. demtism t shirts... |

yes I completely agree with all of what you have said especially with regards to user participation and advertising. The only way i would allow advertising is if it was befitting of the site audience - definately no google ads. I definately want some form of user participation, like you say it gives a site its own momentum helps to grow a site. I would want to do it in an original way though |

I'm doing this with my site and it's turning out great so far. Traffic is on a steady rise from google, yahoo, msn, stumbleupon, twitter and lots of inbound links from people posting about it on various forums. Cool thing is that right now I am just trying to get tons of content up on it because in the next couple of weeks I will be getting linked to by the main site in the subject and they are starting to get tons of press and more traffic. Doing this site purley for fun already turned into $ but not how I thought it would (I didn't think it would at all) by getting my foot in the door in a whole new industry. ♠insert witty remark here♠

Yeah - I like your site vamboom. Do you have much user participation? I think that actually just having fun and not giving a fuck about money initially is a valid strategy. You have to create the site with the intent of pleasing users and not sponsers. |

Thanks man, yea, It's starting to happen now, I am getting a few comments here and there and people are emailing me videos 'n music to use on it, so far just a handfull, but the site is only about a month old so I know I need to be a little bit patient. It does take an assload of work though! I do a ton of writing for it, then the photo stuff and the music and video takes tons of time and help from my friends, plus I have to get the mypace stronger (more work) add more people on twitter and on and on. I think the site will explode once the whole tarvu thing spreads around a bit more and the show launches etc. and luckily they are behind me 150% so that'll help. and to: Quote:

I guess the problem with any article based site is that it becomes onerous creating the content yourself or with the help of others. You need to consider a long-term plan on how to generate content. Thats why I think user generated sites are effective. Because they become autonomous to an extent. I cant ever imagine facebook or you tube running out of steam, they will always be relevant and up to date. |

^ I agree, I stockpile though, I will take a couple of days and just create stuff for the site, enough to last a month or more and slowly put it up on thing at a time. I have user submissions for articles, but honestly that part is the most fun. I love to write nonsense, as I am sure you are all well aware of... ♠insert witty remark here♠
