A little career direction question.
Hello, I think this is the right place for this. I am currently going to school for a degree in graphic design, focusing on web design. I just have a question about if this is worth it to go into this category of the field. I am considering to change pace and possibly go more into the web development category. Do any of you have opinions, or if you guys are professional web designers or web developers do you have any advice you could give me. I like to design sites and I am pretty good at it, however I also like to code sites and I researched that there is more money in that field. So if you have any opinions or advice please comment. Thanks in advance, cheers! |

I have a degree in graphic design but am more of a web developer in my freelance career. Coding is easier to pick up, and design theory is something that needs to be taught. Stick with what you are doing but start learning the basics of HTML/CSS. Once you've got those down look into some server side languages like PHP, and then a database like postgre or mysql. The more talent you have in the total web from design to development the better off you will be long term. |

Yeah, I currently do all my sites right now in HTML and CSS and I have been dabbling in the CMS' which is introducing me to PHP. So I'm experimenting with that and slowly learning it. And I kind of figured maybe I should just get as much education in both areas to be well rounded. I was just curious or perhaps looking for other people's opinions. Thanks for your comment. Anyone else? |
