dialup testing

in flash you can test how long a site would take to load on different bandwidths... is it possible to do this somehow with an xhtml site? some kind kind of bandwidth limiter?

cheers

The beaver gives you a rough guide, bottom right tells you how many secs it should take to load. Dont know how reliable it is though. We keep a dialup connection on the go for testing.

Hows the new job going ?

In Flash:

When you're previewing the scene/movie, use the View menu to display the Bandwidth Profiler (or Ctrl + B for pc).

Then in the Debug menu you can choose what dialup connection you want to simulate.

You migt need to press Ctrl + Enter again to get the file to stream instead of instantly loading.

Hope that's what you meant.

Have you tested it in firefox? The main container isn't stretching - guess you're using floats.

Not sure about measuring bandwidth - just keep an eye on filesizes and remember that 56k modems don't actually reach that speed.
