website pricing

Hi

im new to this forum so be nice

right.. Ive just made this website, www.alias-cs.co.uk , one of the first ones ive made and ive had a lot of people ask me how much I would charge for designing a similar site... I respond , "erm Im not sure"

I was just wondering if someone could put a general price tag on it as im thinking of taking webdesign further and I havnt got a clue how much it would be worth. Its pritty simple as im only amature at coding. The one in question is for a gaming clan.

Any help would be appreciated.

regards

nSol

How long did it take you to design - times that by what you think your hourly rate should be - say £25?

So if it takes you 30 hours charge £750! That's just an example, I charge different rates depending on the client!

wow,

Ive had a number of offers ranging from £40 - £60.
I did think that was a bit cheap, just wasnt sure

yes it did take me about 30 -35 hrs but I suppose that depends on the skill level of the designer. £750 :O

if you did all the 3D work as well as the flash, other graphics, and html, then I'd probably charge about £1500 for that - of course it depends on the client, what you think you are worth an hour etc.

The way we generally work it out is:

number of hours estimated: say 35 hours X £25 = 875
PLUS
Project management (this is for all the planning, mock ups/concepts, phone calls, meetings, changes of plan etc.) normally somewhere round 25% of your development time in addition
= £218.75

Total = £1093.75

But of course that's not mates rates. Thought to be honest, I'd steer clear of doing websites that involve 30 odd hours of work on the cheap, even if it's for mates, you'll soon get well narked off with it. Unless you're just doing it for the experience, in which case do it in exchange for a few crates of beer

For mates rates probs work for about £10/£15 per hour!

£40/£60 - ouch dude!! That would be less than minimum wage!

Only problem with that site that you aint gonna sell it to a gamer at £500+ as they are all looking for a 'nice but cheap' or 'professionaly done' (still not £1000)

but GL with the selling

Good luck getting anywhere near a grand for that.
Has someone patched up the dotcom bubble? I thought it burst.

I wasn't suggesting he should charge £25 per hour for that - just as an example!

I charge different depending on client!

I just wanted a rough idea of a price tag, I understand that Id have to target a different market if I wanted to sell it for a reasonable price.

I didnt post here get get sunshine blown up my ass Mr Stickman. Sit down. A more constructive post would have been more appropriate....

haha it's all static's fault.

rSol - Sunshine up your arse? What are you on about? Kudos for the Mr though - nice level of respect, sonny.

And I was being constructive. I was saying that these figures are all pie in the sky for that type of site. Seems there's been more of that round here recently (or maybe it's just all the I'm 14 and I want to start a business threads).

it's all relative at the end of the day - if someone'll pay you £50 for the site, and you're happy to do it, go for it ..

there's been many occasions where I've charged almost half what I should be just because You get an idea of what the client is willing to pay - if you want the job, and you don't work for preloaded or someone, you can't be picky...

no seriously there has been.

"There isnt an 'average' rate because demographics are too widespread. With this in mind, you can find your rates by doing the following formula"

"For this forumla, you will ned to figure out what your overhead is. Overhead is an expense that cannot be billable to a client.."

"Lookat these areas... (rent, Income tax, utilities, insurance, supplies, marketing, shipping, telephone, accoutning, legal, travel, furniture, dues, licences)"

Im not entirely sure how much of this applies but was taken from my freelance research work I did a while back. These were the general costing issues when it came to finding a salary as such.
