new tv - lcd or plasma?

Thinking about getting a new TV. I want 40"+ and 1080p.

What do you think of these:

Toshiba Regza 42X3030D 42in LCD TV - TrustedReviews

and

Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ80 42in Plasma TV - TrustedReviews

Can anyone recommend any others around the same price range?

Depends on what you are doing. LCD is better for video games. The colour is crisper. I've had an LCD for almost 3 years, and it hasn't done me wrong yet.

I've been told that plasma's have better image quality. Deeper blacks, better contrast etc..

What about the 2 i've posted links for?

Ugly? Do you mean the surrounding case? I couldn't give two shit's about that as long as the image quality is good.

When I watch telly I look at the bit in the middle not the frame

That is like the new generation of my TV. I'll swear by LCD. Movies look great. I've connected my laptop to it as well, and it worked good too.

Can anyone give any reasons why you'd choose LCD or Plasma? I could of sworn plasma's were supposed to be better quality image wise, so is there some other reason you'd pick LCD over it?

Is it just because you've already bought an LCD and don't want to of made a bad move?
