motivation

what do you guys do for motivation?

when your stuck in a gloomy office for x amount of hours every day how do you stay motivated?

i work for a company as their in-house designer and im the only designer here.... so basically i work on my own day to day with only the boss to answer to. i get given a brief by the boss and then im left alone to get on with it and its boring as fuck.

see if your working with a few people around you its quite good and you can have a laugh and take the piss etc... working alone though im finding is currently killing me of late.

i think i need a nice young female PA to entertain me

I'm in the same position, except i'm now looking for a new job as I'm bored.

I usually do a few personal projects of things I'm in to and that give me a bit more enthusiasm.

look at blogs like form fifty five etc. Good for inspiration. As for staying motivated, i dunno. I'm at a summer job as an in-house designer and already find the repetitiveness horrible.

every job you do will be boring, you're never going to get around that.

its up to you man, you're a different person then me, anything we suggest probably won't do the trick...
however I do suggest taking a lot of little breaks and walk around the office, talk to some people, drink some coffee or something, just stop focusing entirely on the work... and more about how to make your mind happy

I do some tutorials of some cool new techniques when I'm bored or need a kick in the pants.

Especially love the After Effects tutorials this guy offers.

Yes, but money makes me happy so. It's win win for me.

That is exactly how I feel. And if you're not producing your best work you become less happy and less creative and it becomes a negative spiral.

I struggled with lack of motivation when I worked as the only creative in a corporate environment, and thought it would get better after I went out on my own. Now though, it's triggered by having all innovation shaved from my concepts draft by draft, until I'm left with end-products I'm ashamed of...but paid well for. Maybe we should start a thread for "most hideous result of client intervention" that might make me feel better.

Right now I'm hoping that joining this forum is a step toward becoming re-motivated. It's refreshing to see how others solve visual problems, and to see all aspects of design issues discussed - personal and professional.

Also changing routine seems to help a little. Maybe changing clients would help more...

That's funny. I don't try to do things to make me motivated. If I'm not motivated I make myself motivated. Almost like triggering the endorphins in my brain by myself. XP
